The Long Run was created as the international programme of the Zeitz Foundation. It was founded by Jochen Zeitz, the innovative former CEO of Puma who introduced its ethical business framework and Environmental Profit & Loss Account (EP&L), now Director of Kering and Chairman of the board’s Sustainable Development Committee, and co-founder and co-chair with Sir Richard Branson of The B Team.
The Long Run’s mission is to create and support ecologically and socially responsible projects and destinations around the world to achieve long-lasting impact and sustainability in privately managed areas.
Long Run Members are institutions that directly manage or significantly influence the management of a natural area of conservation value with defined geographical boundaries. They are committed to achieving sustainability through a holistic balance of Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce (“the 4Cs”).
The Long Run Members aspire to this journey of sustainability, guided by the rigorous Global Ecosphere Retreats® (GER) standard, and supported with knowledge sharing by fellow Members and Long Run Supporters and by technical assistance from The Long Run, in a process of continuous improvement. Supporters of The Long Run, commit to share our mission by signing The Long Run Charter.
To achieve our mission, The Long Run 80+ Global Ecosphere Retreats®, Members and Supporters connect and collaborate through The Long Run’s platform. Pooling experience, knowledge, inspiration and motivation strengthens The Long Run’s impact and reach, developing and growing the network of leading destinations in sustainability.
As a like-minded international alliance of destinations leading sustainability, we can be a driving force in promoting and developing more sustainable thinking and lead global change.
