socialbnb is a new type of accommodation booking system, one where revenues benefit local populations rather than flowing outside of a destination.
socialbnb looks for social and environmental projects, advises them on how to get started in sustainable tourism, and provides the platform to make their premises bookable by visitors. In return, guests get to know the people behind projects and are directly making a positive impact to local projects. A stay supports the financing of valuable project work and makes a positive social contribution to the region and the local population.
Mission
To create tourism where everyone benefits, by bringing travellers and local people together to create an authentic overnight experience. The income from tourism should benefit the local population to make tourism more equitable.
How does socialbnb contribute to sustainable development?
socialbnb supports projects that contribute to the realization of several UN Sustainable Development Goals. Every accommodation that can be found on the socialbnb platform creates a social or ecological added value. A potential project does not necessarily have to be related to the tourism sector. socialbnb currently promotes projects/organizations with different project contents and divides them into five project types: nature conservation, equality, education, animal protection and health.
There are now over 200 projects in almost 45 countries on the platform and cooperating with socialbnb. From the very beginning, it was important to the founding team that communities could participate in designing the offer. Through the socialbnb platform a network of stakeholders has been created, strengthening intersectional exchange with the goal of distributing the tourism value creation more sustainably.
