Fundación Montecito is a Colombian nonprofit working to improve the environment, particularly in the Andean mountains and wetlands. The wetland that is closer to our heart is lake Tota, high-Andean and largest lake in Colombia. We focus on water-and-wetland governance, environmental sustainability, nature tourism, education and conservation, and manage two private nature reserves (in Boyacá and Santander). Our work has had a significant impact on governance, education and nature conservation in rural communities, with a focus on primary school-age children. Our goal is to create sustainable and harmonious living spaces for people and nature, incorporating ancestral values.
