Germany is known for its world-leading tourism industry (travel and tourism contribute to the German GDP more than 358 billion EUR!), demonstrated every year also at the largest travel fair, the ITB. Germany’s present Presidency of the Council of the European Union will have a focus on the recovery from the Corona crisis. Thereby tourism as a victim of COVID-19, but also with its potential to transit in the future to a much greener industry will stay much in the frontline. On the other side, the EU Commission with its European Green Deal and the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 committed itself to enlarge the coverage of its protected area network by 2030 to 30% (on land and sea). On this biodiversity protection front also Germany wants to play a leading role. – This, and the fact that Germany is the country with most LT&C-members and already 4 LT&C-Examples, provides good reason to increase our engagement there.
In this context, we have meanwhile produced for our German-speaking readers a German version of our website. And we are planning together with our founding member and LT&C-Example, Schutzstation Wattenmeer, a brainstorming workshop and webinar to prepare for a larger project initiative:
You find the information about the workshop/webinar also on our Event page (here we will publish soon also a more detailed agenda). If you are interested and want to actively contribute to the discussion, you should express your interest directly to peter.prokosch@LTandC.org or use the below contact form. We would then provide you with the login information to participate by Zoom.
