This is a frequent question we get. And can we trust that these carbon offsetting mechanisms and projects do work and are not only an easy alibi ? is often asked as well. LT&C is not only caring for specific forms of conservation-supporting tourism. We also want to encourage travellers to care for the climate. We therefore would like to see our members at least to be well informed about ways to reduce personal climate footprints, if not actively engaged in reducing own carbon emissions. Why it should be a minimum effort of travellers to invest in offsetting projects is explained in the UN-Handbook for Climate Neutrality. A short version combined with a specific offer for our members we get here from our member, the South Pole Group, who is a world leader in this field, trusted e.g. by UN-organisations and WWF (read also: What is Carbon Offsetting and How Does It Work):
Have you flown much this year, e.g. exploring the astonishing beauty of Africa’s nature around Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe? Flying to distant countries, but also across Europe, requires huge amounts of energy – and is causing several tons of greenhouse gas emissions each time. How is it possible to combine your well-deserved holidays abroad with a green consciousness?
Well, there is one way: carbon compensation for your air travel. Investing in emission reduction projects developed and registered under stringent standards can generate emission savings that account for the amount of carbon released while flying – and contribute to benefits beyond mere compensation. Many of these renewable energies, energy efficiency or conservation projects entail additional co-benefits such as biodiversity conservation, local job creation or the improvement of health conditions that are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
One example is the REDD+ project ‘Kariba’, halting deforestation and safeguarding biodiversity in Zimbabwe. Since this REDD+ (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation) project launched in 2011, more than 18 million tons of CO2 have been prevented from entering the atmosphere. The project has also supported the independence and well-being of local communities.
Offset now through this project and leave your home exploring the beauty of our blue planet while engaging in conservation and simultaneously supporting people in need.
To take advantage of the discounted price to LT&C members, sign in on the South Pole webshop using the credentials provided through the LT&C membership and calculate or insert your emissions according to your travel packages.

Some of us just did it. If you also want to offset your travel emissions by investing into the Kariba REDD+project (which is also an LT&C-Example) and receive as LT&C-member the credentials and pathways to do it, let us know by using this contact form (can be also used if you want to know how to become an LT&C-member):
